15th Annual DeGroot-Akins Nursing Scholarship Gala January 27, 2024 6:00 PM - 10:30 PM Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel Jemez Canyon Dam Road Silent Auction / Wine Pull / Dinner / Nursing Scholarships The Rotary Club of Rio Rancho Sunrise awards scholarships and support to Nursing Students who intend to return to Rio Rancho after they complete their studies. Through the gracious support of local businesses, individuals, medical groups, and higher learning organizations more than $175,000 in scholarships have been awarded so far. The goal for this year is to award $25,000. Candidates submit applications and meet specific criteria. Qualifying applications are reviewed and those selected are interviewed by a panel of club members, nursing professionals and previous award winners. The panel then recommends scholarship amounts based on the results. Rio Rancho Rotary Sunrise Community COVID-19 Support Grant The Rio Rancho Rotary Sunrise Club was granted permission to modify its district grant to become the Rio Rancho Rotary Sunrise Community COVID-19 Support Grant which proposed the use of the existing approved $2,973 in grant funding combined with an additional $750+ in club funding for a total of $3,723+ to be used to purchase prepackaged/boxed meals for distribution to healthcare workers at 3 local hospitals in the Rio Rancho area (Presbyterian Rust Medical Center, Lovelace Westside Hospital, and Sandoval Regional Medical Center).
